My grandpa and grandma Boyd recently dug out their one-and-only photo album from when their three children were young. Photo-holic that I am, I can't imagine having an average of five pictures for each year of my child's life! But I do appreciate how having just a few pictures increases the value of the ones you do have.
I was so struck by the resemblance between my dad's baby pictures and Grady that I asked the unthinkable: can I take your precious family album home with me for a few weeks? Grandpa and Grandma obliged (I promised to protect the album with my life), and I have gradually been scanning the pictures into my collection.
Here are a couple collages I made to show the uncanny resemblance between Grady and his grandpa Daryl. As I scrolled through the shots while working on the collage, even I had to stop and think about who was who!
The first collage is a big scrambling of miscellaneous shots, and the second collage pairs the pictures that I thought looked most alike. Can you tell who's who?
None of Grady's photos were "recreated" to match my dad's. I just sifted through my massive collection to find the poses that were the most similar.
Also, there's no denying that Grady looks very much like a Larson. But since that's the resemblance we usually hear about, I thought it would be fun to show how he undeniably has some Boyd in him too.
Children are such interesting combinations of families. In Grady's case: equal parts Boyd, Wilde, Young, Magsam, Larson, Huisman, Krisher, and Richtsmeier. But ultimately, the whole is different than the sum of all its parts, and each child is his own unique person!

This is just amazing! Fun to look at. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow - definitely some Boyd in him! And before seeing these pictures I would've said he takes after his daddy. It is amazing to see what shows up in our children!
